Membership in the BRDMHA, as well as participation in the activities of the BRDMHA, brings with it many benefits and privileges. At the same time members and participants are expected to fulfill certain responsibilities and obligations, including but not limited to complying with the Code of Conduct, Policies, Regulations and Rules of the BRDMHA in accordance with the guidelines set out by the OHMA and Hockey Canada.

The BRDMHA Code of Conduct identifies the standard of conduct which is expected of all Association members, and other persons involved in BRDMHA activities and events. Individuals who fail to meet this standard may be subject to disciplinary sanctions set out by the BRDMHA in conjunction with the rules and policies of the OMHA. These sanctions range from verbal reprimand to termination of Association membership and will be determined by the board.

BELLE RIVER DISTRICT MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION

PARENT AND PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT

Belle River District Minor Hockey Association dedicates itself to the advancement of minor hockey for all individuals by ensuring meaningful opportunities and enjoyable experiences in a safe sportsmanlike environment.

Belle River District Minor Hockey has adopted this "Code of Conduct" in which all members are expected to follow. The purpose of this "Code of Conduct" is to maintain a fun, pleasurable experience for all who attend any function under the BRDMHA.

The Belle River District Minor Hockey Association "Code of Conduct" follows the guidelines provided by the Ontario Minor Hockey Association and Hockey Canada Abuse and Harassment Policies and Procedures.

The Belle River District Minor Hockey Association "Code of Conduct" places an emphasis on respect:

1. Respect the game;

2. Respect the rules;

3. Respect the opponents;

4. Respect the Coaches, Officials, Parents, Executives, Players, Arena Staff, Volunteers and their decisions;

5. Respect the facility;

6. Maintain self-control at all times

In order to reduce the number of abusive and harassing incidents in our Association, we are asking that everyone be responsible and demonstrate pro-social behaviours. We are models for our children and youth, therefore it is vital that we act accordingly.

As such, any excessive profanity, harassment, bullying or aggression directed at a game official, executive member, parent, child, arena staff or volunteer will not be tolerated and appropriate disciplinary action will be the result.

If at any time you feel your child or anyone else is being threatened or harassed, remove yourself from the situation and immediately contact any member of the BRDMHA Executive Board. They will inform you of the proper procedure to initiate complaint.

We therefore agree:

1. I will not force my child to participate in hockey.

2. I will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for youth, not adults.

3. I will inform the coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.

4. I will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the Association.

5. I and my guests will be positive role models for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy and be demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials and spectators at every game and practice.

6. I and my guests will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player or parent such as taunting, refusing to shake hands or using profane language or gestures.

7. I will not encourage any behaviours or practices that would endanger the health and well-being of the athletes.

8. I will teach my child to play by the rules.

9. I will demand that my child treat other players, coaches, officials and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, colour, sex or ability.

10. I will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participants for making a mistake or for losing a competition.

11. I will respect the officials and their authority during games and will never question, discuss or confront coaches at the game field, and will take time to speak with coaches at an agreed upon time and place.

12. I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs and alcohol and I will refrain from their use at all sports events.
